The abdominal area is one of the hardest areas of the body to develop muscles since this is where most of the body fat is deposited. I was lucky enough to win some Health and Strength magazines from the 1930,s on ebay. There was so many great physiques that anybody would be please to emulate today. They do look light compared with the bulk of today. Bearing in mind this is well before the introduction of Dianabol in the mid 50s which started introducing bulk and mass. They did look very statuesque. The tready supplements of the time were the likes of Oxley's Muscle Food, Iron Jelliods, Vitapon interestingly non of the ingredients are mentioned! I have had a Bad Back start to the New Year. Started the Christmas holidays with having a good tidy up in the Dungeon. Woke up the following morning with a damn painful back. Did not feel anything go or pop when tidying the weights away non the less it is pretty debilitating and a month later still not able to train because I tidied up Gerrr! Feel fat and unfit not being able to train Gerrr!!!! Lessons learned from this foolishness.... How To Avoid a Bad Back tips Sit on the couch watching crap TV scoffing beer and pies all day! Do not tidy up the Gym... Ever. Do not go anywhere near a Gym or try to keep fit! If you must tidy up warm up first. Get someone else to tidy up. Stay Strong Lift heavy but watch your back. I read this short article in a copy of Health and Strength dated 1950. It seems appopiate to start the year with this simple but apparently timeless advise. "The whole secret is to start correctly on a sound progressive routine. Remember, also, that better and quicker results in bodybuilding can be be achieved by paying a little attention to diet and the general mode of living. Try to observe the following simple health rules. Earlier to bed. As short rest after every meal. No smoking or strong drink. Drink more water and fruit juices and less tea and coffee. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Don't over eat. Keep in the open air as much as possible. Never ride when you can walk and above all look on the bright side always. A healthy man is a happy man" Although dated these are fine tenets to live by and it would be a good start to year resovling to live by them.
